Research Foci
By combining personality and clinical psychology with a broad variety of biopsychological research methods, my work strives for a better understanding of the association between individual variations in intrinsic brain network connectivity and differences is cognitive ability, personality traits, and the vulnerability to psychological diseases. My experimental work focuses on the development of a multi-factorial model of pain-related fear to improve our understanding about individual differences in threat learning, avoidance behavior, and their implication in chronic pain.
- Fear of pain: Fear of pain as crucial factor within the development of chronic pain; interaction between stress and pain-related fear; modulating role of individual differences in affective, cognitive and neural traits (intrinsic brain oscillatory patterns)
- Intelligence: Intrinsic and task-related brain network connectivity as critical biological basis of intelligence
- ADHD: Dimensional conceptualization of psychological diseases; neural and behavioral variability as marker of ADHD; intra- vs. inter-individual variability
