    BSc Developmental Psychology

    Formal requirements

    The module "Developmental Psychology" is comprised of the sub-modules "Developmental Psychology 1" (EPSY-1) and "Developmental Psychology 2" (EPSY-2).

    EPSY-1 (6 ECTS) includes the one-semester lecture (2h per week), the accompanying seminar (2h per week) as well as the exam "Entwicklungspsychologie"/"Developmental Psychology" (120min).

    In general, the academic assessment for the accompanying seminar consists of an oral presentation.
    Attending the accompanying seminar is compulsory!

    The exam can be taken in any semester. It is not necessary to take the exam in the same semester the accompanying seminar is taken.
    Students need to register for the exam via sb@home.

    EPSY-2 includes a "free" seminar (academic assessment generally through an oral presentation). The sub-module EPSY-2 is worth 3 ECTS (registration via sb@home).

    An introductory session takes place the first Tuesday of each semester.

    Please note: Seminar allocation will be part of the introductory session. If students want to take a developmental psychology seminar, attendance is required.
    Date and time of the introductory session will be posted on sb@home (course overview / Vorlesungsverzeichnis > Developmental Psychology) in due time.

    It is recommended attending EPSY-1 and EPSY-2 from the second semester on.
    Students in their first semester might attend EPSY-1/EPSY-2 if places are available.

    Content EPSY-1:

    The lecture given by Prof. Nieding covers important fundamentals of cognitive, social and emotional human development, in particular with regards to children.

    For individual areas of development related topics, theories, methods and empirical findings will be presented and discussed.  

    The accompanying seminar complements the lecture. Selected topics from the lecture will be discussed in depth and further topics/issues - in parts relevant to the exam - will be presented (e.g. development of ethics, bonding, emotional development, media and children).

    The exam will cover the lecture by Prof. Nieding in the respective semester as well as the current exam literature.

    Content EPSY-2:

    The seminars of EPSY-2 cover various topics of developmental psychology in more detail (e.g. development within the family context, language development, autism).

    Specific seminars offered within EPSY-2 vary over the semesters.

    The seminars allows for discussions, individual and group work as well active analysis of the topics discussed. 

    Academic assessment consists of an oral presentation (in general).

    Formal requirements

    The module "Developmental Psychology" is comprised of the sub-modules "Developmental Psychology 1" (EPSY-1) and "Developmental Psychology 2" (EPSY-2).

    EPSY-1 includes the one-semester lecture (2h per week), the accompanying seminar (2h per week) as well as the exam "Entwicklungspsychologie"/"Developmental Psychology" (120min, graded).

    The accompanying seminar is "bonusfähig", i.e. students can receive a bonus by submitting a paper, giving a presentation, taking a short exam, or the like.
    The bonus must be obtained before participating in the exam.

    Information on the bonus will also be given in the introductory session. For further details regarding the bonus, students can also contact the lecturer of the respective seminar.

    Taking the accompanying seminar is recommended, active participation is required.

    In order to receive 5 ECTS for the EPSY-1 module, students need to register for the exam via sb@home. Further information on the bonus can be found here.
