Regulation of pain with cognitive strategies

This project addresses the influence of the cognitive regulation strategies acceptance, distraction and reappraisal on experimentally induced pain. To this end, pain-free participants receive heat pain stimuli or electrical stimuli with different stimulus durations. Subjective pain experience as well as psychophysiological pain correlates are gathered. This basic research aims at identifying underlying mechanisms in order to optimize pain treatments.
